Nostalgic Philadelphia Wedding Videography with Super 8

August 7, 2023

When college sweethearts Emily and Austin decided to get married, their journey ended up being longer than they expected. COVID delayed their plans, but they were finally able to have the elegant event they hoped for at Glen Foerd. I documented their Philadelphia wedding videography on Super 8, my favorite medium for capturing the candid moments that you want to relive again and again.

Nostalgic Philadelphia Wedding Videography at Glen Foerd

Emily and Austin held their wedding at Glen Foerd. This historic Philadelphia wedding venue is located right on the Delaware River. The mansion is a beautiful example of mid-nineteenth century architecture with grand rooms full of carefully curated European and American art. Antique portraits line halls furnished with vintage pieces. It’s like stepping back in time into a luxurious world.

The grounds around Glen Foerd are amazing too. There are 18 acres of lawns and gardens along the river. Your Philadelphia wedding videography will have a wide variety of backdrops for those incredible candid moments. Despite being in the city, it feels like you’re on a country estate. Receptions take place outdoors, so a tent is a good idea. Emily and Austin did a good job of making their tent feel just as atmospheric as the rest of the venue.

Glen Foerd has a capacity for weddings of up to 300 guests, but it’s a great space for smaller weddings too. It’s easily accessible being just 20 minutes from Center City. The venue has on-site caterers to simplify your wedding planning. Packages for weddings at Glen Foerd range between $18,000 and $23,000.

Glen Foerd is ideal for Philadelphia wedding videography on Super 8. The historic details and elegant grounds translate beautifully on film. The film feels like it could have been made in 2023 or 1973. It has that enduring feeling.

Austin and Emily’s Elegant Wedding

Austin and Emily are big travelers. They’ve traveled all over the world. Austin even proposed to Emily while watching the sunrise at Playa Xcalacoco in Mexico. The couple will continue their world travels with a honeymoon tour of Italy. Like many couples, they’d been planning their wedding and honeymoon since January of 2020. COVID delayed their plans, but it was worth the wait.

When I was talking to Emily and Ausitn about their Philadelphia wedding videography, I asked them about their vision for their day. Emily put it perfectly: “I want a low-stress, classy, memorable day filled with picturesque moments that I will remember forever.” Glen Foerd is definitely picturesque with elegant rooms and gardens. Emily and Austin had their first look on the porch surrounded by Greek revival pillars. The setting was perfect. For the reception, their wedding decor built upon the existing aesthetic with incredible florals and a candlelit reception.

Even though this wedding venue is very elevated, a lot of the best moments of the day were the spontaneous interactions between formal events. Old friends clinked glasses during cocktail hour. Emily leaned on Austin’s shoulder at dinner. Guests let loose on the dance floor once the music started. All of these moments feel so tangible on Super 8.

A Unique Super 8 Film

When I asked Emily and Austin what drew them to my work, they said they love the unique nature of Super 8 wedding films. It “captures emotion well and perfectly cuts out the cheesiness of typical wedding videography productions.” I couldn’t agree more. Super 8 wedding films are cinematic precisely because they’re not overly-produced. You can see it in these clips from Emily and Austin’s wedding at Glen Foerd. Aside from the music, the film speaks for itself. You can relive the day as it really was, from the natural lighting to the candid moments. If you don’t want your Philadelphia wedding videography to consume your day, Super 8 is a great option.
