Located between multiple major East Coast cities, Delaware is a great place to get married. Between the natural beauty and convenient location, it’s worth exploring all the amazing venues here when you’re planning your wedding. Winterthur is a beautiful Delaware wedding venue with historic charm. Amanda and Klaus’s elegant nighttime wedding here was unforgettable.
Winterthur: Elegant Delaware Wedding Venue
This Delaware wedding venue shows just how beautiful our little state can be. The amazing grounds are in full bloom with cherry trees and gardens in the summer and alive with fall color in the later part of the year. It’s a space to breathe and be with your favorite people. Even though it looks like a castle, you can balance that swept away feeling with being grounded in your relationships.
Winterthur is so big that there are six options for ceremony and reception locations. The over 1,000 acres include a reflecting pool, atrium, terrace, and various gardens. Amanda and Klaus had their ceremony at the reflecting pool in the evening. The lights strung across the courtyard made the space festive and romantic.
As historic wedding venues go, Winterthur has a lot to offer. The architecture of the building itself is amazing. Since the venue is also a museum, its decor is really unique. It includes pieces of American decorative arts dating back to as early as the 17th Century. You don’t invest a lot in elaborate decor because it’s already beautiful.
When you’re figuring out the cost of this Delaware wedding venue, you have to consider the catering minimums alongside the site fees. Combined, packages can vary between $26,500 and $46,500. Prices don’t vary significantly in the off season, so if you’re planning a Winterthur wedding, you might as well pick a date you love.
Winterthur is located just twenty minutes northwest of Wilmington. Philadelphia is about 45 minutes north on I-95. The venue is in a more relaxed, picturesque area not far from Brandywine Creek State Park. It’s a great place to invite locals and out of town guests to celebrate because there’s so much to do, especially in the summer.
Candid Wedding Photography at Winterthur
This Delaware wedding venue is so elegant that you might think you have to take formal wedding photos here. Amanda and Klaus’s wedding photos are a great example of how well candid wedding photography can work at Winterthur. These photos tell a story of connection and presence. The images are of moments, not a checklist of poses.
When Amanda and Klaus reached out to me, they didn’t have a huge list of “must take” photos. They did know that they wanted a few images of their beloved dogs. Candid photography is ideal for moments with pets. Instead of trying to wrangle their greyhound into a perfect pose, Amanda snuggled her and enjoyed a moment of connection. This photo shows so much more about their loving relationship than a posed photo could.
Klaus and Amanda’s Winterthur Wedding
Amanda and Klaus’s wedding embraced the natural beauty and elegance of this Delaware wedding venue. We spent time exploring the grounds and taking creative portraits. I always appreciate when clients have breathable timelines because it’s easier to follow my intuition and create really artistic images.
This wedding stood out from a lot that you see when you look at photos of Winterthur online. Their nighttime ceremony showed a different side of this venue from your typical afternoon ceremony. I took advantage of the opportunities to do more direct flash and editorial-inspired photos at the reception, too. As a result, this gallery really gives you a sense of being in the moment with authentic feelings artistically represented.
