Artistic Destination Wedding Photography in Italy

December 29, 2023

Music lovers Keri and Brian set out to create a guest-focused wedding that allowed them to connect and be present. A destination wedding felt like the perfect opportunity to create a really unique experience that let everyone be in the moment. This destination wedding photography showcases intimate moments amid the timeless landscape of Northern Italy. The film images are the perfect mix of modern and nostalgic.

A Wedding in Italy

After Keri and Brian inquired about destination wedding photography, I quickly learned that they love the arts and travel. They met at a music appreciation club in college. Keri made Brian really mad when she spent a meeting arguing that playlists were better than albums, a claim she has since retracted. Eventually, Brian proposed on a hike in Vermont. A destination wedding in Asolo felt just right.

For their Italian wedding ceremony and reception, Keri and Brian chose Villa Il Galero in Asolo in Northern Italy. Asolo is a picturesque town with ruins going back to the twelfth century. It’s easy to see why this little town, about an hour north of Venice, has attracted so many poets and artists over the years. The villa preserves the area’s historic charm with antique furniture and a soft, colorful palette in the interior.

Keri and Brian made the most of their wedding in Italy by heading right into their honeymoon. They stayed in Asolo for a few days then drove down to Naples with some stops in between. From there, they went to the Amalfi Coast before flying from Rome to Dublin. Since Keri and Brian didn’t do a big, traditional wedding in the U.S., they could build their love of travel and adventure into their wedding for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Artistic Destination Wedding Photography

When I asked Keri and Brian what drew them to my destination wedding photography, they honed in on my creative approach. They said, “We really like how creative and willing to take risks on different forms of photography you are.” My focus on Super 8 videography and film photography also resonated with them. All of the images in this blog post are on film. I love the way it captured the timeless quality of this dreamy Italian setting.

This destination wedding photography also was an opportunity to work with Eamlee at Birdseed Florals. We’ve worked together many times in the past, and Keri and Brian love her work, too. The fact that I worked with Birdseed Florals gave Keri and Brian confidence that we’d be aligned creatively. I think we created something truly special.

An Intimate Celebration at Villa Il Galero

This destination wedding photography focuses on what mattered to Keri and Brian on their wedding day. The celebration was intimate and intentional with a focus on everyone’s comfort. It aligned with Keri and Brian’s vision of making everyone “feel like they were considered, cared for, and loved.” You can see those feelings in the expressions of guests in these candid photos.

During the planning process, I asked the marriers what they looked forward to most on their wedding day. They were excited about many pieces of their day but especially the beautiful dinner they planned. Keri said they were “looking forward to just sitting down for dinner and getting to hang out and (kind of) relax and enjoy each other’s company after the hubbub of the ceremony and cocktail hour and pictures.”

The candlelit meal ended up being an unforgettable part of the night. Guests enjoyed a beautiful dinner al fresco and talked late into the night. Birdseed Florals decorated the tables with richly colored bunches of flowers and fruits. It achieved the relaxed, intimate atmosphere you’d hope for on a lovely evening in Italy.
